Social Work

Social workers are an integral part of the health care team and work with the entire family to ensure that a therapeutically sound and culturally sensitive approach is used in all aspects of care. We provide continuity of care from the time of diagnosis throughout the course of the child’s illness and address commonemotions that may occur such as fear, anger, anxiety, sadness, helplessness, and guilt.Social workers help families cope with the impact of the diagnosis on all members of the family 

Using a patient and family centered care approach, social workers help families navigate the health care system and provide crisis intervention services. Social workers coordinate services forfamilies between their medical care team and the home environment. 

Services

Some of the services provided include:

  • Psychosocial family assessments that will support and identify family strengths to help families to work 
    together to cope with medical issues
  • Individual, family and group counseling that enhances coping and adaptation
  • Palliative Care counseling
  • Bereavement counseling
  • Psycho-education about medical condition, treatment and related effects
  • Referrals to community and educational resources

Staff

As members of the multidisciplinary health care team, clinical social workers are trained, licensed professionals who provide specialized expertise helping families cope with and manage a chronic illness or new diagnosisprovide crisis intervention services. Social workers coordinate services forfamilies between their medical care team and the home environment. 

Graduate Social Work Interns are vital members of our team supervised by certified social work field instructors who enhance the delivery of patient and family centered care.
