Risk of Caffeine Over-Consumption

Recently, a South Carolina teen died from drinking too much caffeine. After drinking a large soda, a latte, and an energy drink, the teen suffered a fatal cardiac arrhythmia. Robert Tozzi, M.D., chief of Pediatric Cardiology at the Joseph M. Sanzari Children's Hospital at Hackensack Meridian Health Hackensack University Medical Center discusses the negative effects of having too much caffeine.

Dig In to Joe’s World benefiting Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital

The Hackensack University Medical Foundation recently held an event to honor Joseph M. Sanzari, chair of the Board for the Hackensack Meridian Health Pascack Valley Medical Center Joint Venture and a member of the Hackensack Meridian Health Board of Trustees. Proceeds of the celebration will benefit the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital and the Caryl and Jim Kourgelis Fund for Addiction and Behavioral Health at Hackensack University Medical Center.

Northvale Scouts bring gifts to children suffering with cancer

Girl Scout Troop No. 95472 from Northvale recently delivered 32 activity boxes and 32 fleece blankets to the Tomorrows Children’s Fund at the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center to brighten the day a little for children with cancer or blood disorders. The boxes contain assorted gifts such as stuffed animals, comic books, games and Pokemon cards, as well as fleece blankets. The girls reached out to the community to donate the items.

More than 500 youth and community groups joined stars from the world of sports to celebrate raising more than $250,000 as part of "Eli's Challenge," a campaign led by the New York Giants quarterback. The campaign is part of the Tackle Kids Cancer Program, which raises money for critical research and programs at the Children's Cancer Institute at Hackensack Meridian Health Hackensack University Medical Center. Three-year-old Cameron Davis, a patient at the Children’s Cancer Institute who was diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma, a cancer of the sympathetic nervous system, is part of a groundbreaking, new clinical trial at the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s hospital. The trial, funded by the Sohn Conference Foundation, is being overseen by Derek Hanson, M.D., program head, Pediatric Neuro-Oncology.

SOHN Conference Foundation Grant Supports Groundbreaking Neuroblastoma Clinical Trial At Hackensack University Medical Center

The Sohn Conference Foundation announced the expansion of a Phase 2 cutting-edge pediatric clinical trial from the Neuroblastoma and Medulloblastoma Translational Research Consortium (NMTRC) to the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital at HackensackUMC. With the goal of preventing relapse in children with neuroblastoma in remission using a new, oral investigational drug, difluoromethylornithine (DFMO), which is used to treat African sleeping sickness.
