Bergen Cancer Survivor, Dad Donate Start Business, $7K To Children's Cancer Institute

Rebecca Salmins never gave up hope. While she was going through all the intense treatments to cure her leukemia, she never lost hope. Now, she's made sure others like her don't either. Salmins and her family donated $7,000 Monday to Tackle Kids Cancer, a philanthropic program benefitting the Children's Cancer Institute at Hackensack University Medical Center. New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning is very involved with it and has formed a friendship with Salmins.

New Jersey pony farm offers kids an alternative for patient therapy

Healing and treatments can take many forms, and for some young patients, it's not always doctors or nurses who help them feel better. A group of young patients from the Joseph M. Sanzari Children's Hospital received special therapy sessions at Pony Power Therapies, a nonprofit organization that provides therapeutic riding and other horse-assisted activities to special needs and at-risk populations.

Deaths from SIDS plummet, but it's still a leading cause of baby death

Overall, SIDS death rates have been dropping across the nation. Between 1990 and 2015, deaths from SIDS plummeted – falling by more than 70 percent. New Jersey now has the lowest rate of sudden, unexpected infant death of any state, due in part by the work of the CJ Center for SIDS at Hackensack University Medical Center.

 

Summer Samba Night benefit for Tackle Kids Cancer at Son Cubano

The Hackensack University Medical Center Foundation held a Summer Samba Night at Son Cubano restaurant in West New York to benefit Tackle Kids Cancer. The event was hosted by Cara and Luis Robles, New York Red Bulls Goalkeeper and Jennifer and Dr. Michael Farber. (Note: this event was also featured in BC the Mag.)

Family Gives to Cancer Fund

Tackle Kids Cancer, a philanthropic program benefitting the Children's Cancer Institute at Hackensack University Medical Center, received a donation of $7,000 from a young girl and her family who started an online bracelet and accessory retail shop that donates a portion of its proceeds towards the fight to end childhood cancer. Rebecca "Becca Boo" Salmins was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

The Joseph M. Sanzari Children's Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center hosted a musical performance by the Newark Art School and the Hudson Children's Choir of the Hudson Fine Arts Foundation. Heather Choi, a member of the Hackensack University Medical Center Board of Governors, arranged for the performance.

Inserra Supermarkets recently hosted an ice cream social for patients at the Children’s Cancer Institute at the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital. During the visit staff at Inserra Supermarkets created and delivered made-to-order ice cream sundaes to patients and visiting family members.
