$1.4 Million Charity from Barclays

The PGA Tour event last year at Bethpage Black, then known as the Barclays, raised $1.4 million for local charities, the tour announced. Organizers added that this August, the renamed Northern Trust tournament to be held at Glen Oaks in Old Westbury, will raise money for Tackle Kids Cancer.

Moriah Fourth Graders Offer a Helping Hand

This article highlights several acts of kindness and compassion that were recently performed by area school children to help others in need, including a group of fifth grader girls. They participated in a bat mitzvah program where they are involved in a project each month. Lyndhurst track team: Helping Eli's cause

For years, the Lyndhurst High School track and field team has been raising money for an assortment of causes. This year, the team is supporting Tackle Kids Cancer, an initiative of the Children's Cancer Institute at the Joseph M. Sanzari Children's Hospital to raise funds for pediatric cancer research. The team held its first event, a car wash on April 9, and raised $3,000. The team decided to support Tackle Kids Cancer after learning about Eli's Challenge, spearheaded by New York Giant, Eli Manning, who pledged to match the first $100,000 in fundraising from local community groups.

The Hackensack University Medical Foundation recently held an event to honor Joseph M. Sanzari, chair of the Board for the Hackensack Meridian Health Pascack Valley Medical Center Joint Venture and a member of the Hackensack Meridian Health Board of Trustees. Proceeds of the celebration will benefit the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital and the Caryl and Jim Kourgelis Fund for Addiction and Behavioral Health at Hackensack University Medical Center.

Northvale Scouts bring gifts to children suffering with cancer

Girl Scout Troop No. 95472 from Northvale recently delivered 32 activity boxes and 32 fleece blankets to the Tomorrows Children’s Fund at the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center to brighten the day a little for children with cancer or blood disorders. The boxes contain assorted gifts such as stuffed animals, comic books, games and Pokemon cards, as well as fleece blankets. The girls reached out to the community to donate the items.
